UPSSSC PET: the first gate for Group C jobs
PET means Preliminary Eligibility Test. UPSSSC holds it for candidates who want Group C posts. Passing it does not give you a post. Your PET score decides whether you can apply for the main exams that follow, and for many posts the commission calls a multiple of the number of seats from the PET merit, starting from the top scores.
The PET paper is objective and covers history and geography of India, the constitution, the economy, science basics, elementary maths, general Hindi, English, reasoning, current affairs and graph or table reading. The score stays valid only for the period written in its notice, so check that before assuming an old scorecard still works. Lekhpal: what the post is, eligibility and salary
Lekhpal kya hota hai? A lekhpal is the village level revenue employee who keeps land records (khatauni, khasra), checks land disputes on the ground and prepares reports for income, caste and residence certificates. In English the post is usually called village accountant or revenue lekhpal. In other states the same work is done by a patwari.
Lekhpal eligibility: intermediate pass, a valid UPSSSC PET score and the age limit in the notice. Some past notices also gave extra marks for things like NCC or territorial army service, so read the bonus marks clause in the current one.
Selection: PET based shortlisting, a written main exam, then document verification. UP does not hold interviews for Group C posts.
Lekhpal salary: the post sits at Level 3 of the state pay matrix, with dearness allowance and other allowances on top. In hand pay changes with DA revisions, so take the pay level from the notice rather than a figure from a video. UP lekhpal salary also rises with promotions to revenue inspector (kanungo) over time.
Lekhpal vacancy and UPSSSC junior assistant exam dates
A lekhpal vacancy does not come every year. It comes when the revenue department sends a demand to UPSSSC, which then advertises it for PET qualified candidates. The lekhpal exam date and the UP lekhpal exam date notice appear on upsssc.gov.in, usually a few weeks ahead, along with a city intimation slip. The same pattern holds for UPSSSC junior assistant, where the written exam is followed by a Hindi and English typing test at speeds fixed in the advertisement, and a computer certificate is often required.

UPPSC exams and the OTR number
UPPSC fills the senior jobs. Its PCS exam has three stages: a preliminary screening test, a descriptive main exam and an interview. It also recruits review officers, assistant review officers, LT grade teachers, government inter college lecturers, medical officers and engineers through separate advertisements.
Before any UPPSC form you must create an OTR on the commission's site. You fill personal details, category, domicile and qualifications once, upload your photo and signature, and receive an OTR number with a password. Every later application starts with that number, so write it down safely. Searches for OTR UPPSC or UPPSC OTR all point to this one step. Mistakes in OTR copy into every future form, so get it right the first time.
UP police jobs and the DGP office
The DGP of Uttar Pradesh heads the state police, but recruitment is handled by a separate body, UPPRPB. For constable posts the board usually holds a written exam first, then document verification with physical measurement, then a timed run. Sub inspector recruitment follows a similar path with a different written paper. Physical standards change by gender and category, so read them in the current advertisement. Teacher jobs: from UPSESSB to the new commission
Many people still search for UPSESSB, the old Secondary Education Service Selection Board that recruited TGT and PGT teachers for aided schools. That work, along with higher education teacher selection, has moved to the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission. Old results and notices may still carry the board's name, but new forms come from the new commission's website.

Domicile and reservation in UP jobs
Most UP posts accept any Indian citizen who has the qualification. However, caste based quotas (SC, ST, OBC), the EWS quota and the horizontal quota for women goes only to those whose permanent home is in Uttar Pradesh with certificates issued in UP. Others apply as general. Ex servicemen, dependants of freedom fighters and persons with disabilities get separate benefits as per the notice.

Applying in UP: steps and pitfalls
- Read the advertisement PDF on the commission's site and confirm the post code, qualification and age reference date.
- For UPSSSC posts, check that your PET score is valid and meets any minimum the notice sets.
- For UPPSC, log in with your OTR number; create one if you have not.
- Choose your category and sub category carefully. A wrong choice cannot be fixed after the last date.
- Pay the fee, then reopen the form in your login to confirm the status reads complete.
- Print the confirmation page and store the registration number with your PET or OTR details.
Forms in UP are often rejected for an OBC certificate older than the allowed period, a PET score from an expired cycle, a photo that does not match the size rules, and claiming UP reservation with another state's certificate.
Keep these papers ready: high school and intermediate marksheets from UP Board or your board, degree, PET scorecard, caste, domicile and income certificates, computer or typing certificates if asked, and Aadhaar.

What is a lekhpal called in English, and what does the job involve?
In English a lekhpal is usually called a village accountant or revenue lekhpal. The job is to maintain land records of a group of villages, inspect land on the spot and give reports for certificates and revenue cases. It is a Group C post recruited by UPSSSC.
Is PET compulsory for UP lekhpal?
