Police Bharti: Constable and Sub Inspector Guide

Bihar · UP · MPPET and PSTUpdated 21 Oct 2026

Police bharti is the dream of many young people in villages and small towns, from Bihar police constable forms to MP police and UP police SI exams. Each state has its own board, its own physical standards and its own way of declaring results, which confuses many first time applicants.

This page explains the two main entry points (constable and sub inspector), how the written exam and physical tests usually work, which board handles your state with its official website, and how to become an SI. A live list of police notices sits on this page and refreshes as soon as we post a new one.

Police bharti: constable and SI

Quick facts

Police bharti in short: constable or sub inspector

Most people enter state police in one of two ranks. A constable (sipahi) is the base rank who does beat duty, guards, traffic and thana work. A sub inspector, called SI or daroga, is an officer who can register and investigate cases and usually heads a police post or works as a station officer under the SHO.

Sub inspector in Hindi is "up nirikshak" (उप निरीक्षक). Constable posts need less education and come in very large numbers. SI posts need a degree and are fewer, so competition per seat is higher. Both have a written test plus physical tests, and both end with document checks and medical.

States also recruit special constables such as driver, wireless operator, computer operator and armed police. These have extra skill tests, so read the post wise eligibility in the notice.

Written exam, PET and PST in general terms

The written exam is objective type, with general knowledge, reasoning, maths, Hindi and sometimes science. Constable papers are of 10th or 12th level. SI papers are at graduation level and some states hold a prelims and a mains, like the Bihar SI exam by BPSSC.

PST (Physical Standard Test) measures height, chest for men and, in some states, weight for women. Lower limits often apply to certain categories and hill areas. PET (Physical Efficiency Test) checks running and sometimes long jump, high jump and shot put. In some states PET only needs a pass, while in others, such as Bihar constable and MP constable, PET marks are added to the merit. The bihar police physical standard, and items like bihar daroga height, are printed in a table inside the notice. Never trust a table copied on social media.

Start running practice early, on the same distance the notice gives. Many candidates clear the written test with good marks and then fail the run by a few seconds. Injuries in the last week are also common, so do not overtrain just before the test.

Bihar police, Bihar SI and the daroga exam

For a Bihar police constable post, CSBC holds a written test and then calls about five times the vacancies for the physical test. In recent rounds the written paper was only qualifying and the merit was drawn from physical test marks; confirm this in the notice you apply under. For bihar si (bihar police si, often called bihar daroga), BPSSC holds a prelims, a mains, and then PET and PST, followed by document verification and medical. The bpssc si notice lists the bihar daroga age limit with relaxation, and the exam dates are announced through notices on the BPSSC site.

The bihar daroga result comes in parts: the prelims result, the mains result with the list for physical test, and then the final merit list. The final list is a PDF of roll numbers by category. If you are looking for the bpssc si result or the bihar si sarkari result, open the BPSSC website and look for the advertisement number in the notice title. Applications for Bihar SI are online, and both boards publish model answer keys after written tests.

MP police and UP police: results and recruitment pattern

For MP police constable recruitment, MPESB holds an online written exam, then a physical test with marks, and the final merit adds both. Anyone hunting the sarkari result MP police, the mp police result or the madhya pradesh police result for a stage should open the ESB website, where it is posted often with a scorecard you open with your application number. MP police age limit rules depend on category and on whether you are from MP; check the notice, then test your birth date against it with the calculator kept on the sarkari naukri hub.

In Uttar Pradesh, UPPRPB runs the written exam, then document verification and physical standard test, then the physical efficiency test, which is qualifying. People keep asking "UP police ka result kab aaega". The board does not give a fixed date in advance. It first releases the answer key, takes objections, and only then puts the result on the board site. The exam city slip for UP police constable is usually released a few days before the admit card. More on the state is on our UP jobs page.

SI kaise bane: how to become a sub inspector

Here is the plain path that answers "sub inspector kaise bane" or "si banne ke liye kya kare":

  1. Finish graduation in any stream from a recognised university. This is the usual SI ke liye qualification. Some states also want a computer certificate or Hindi knowledge.
  2. Check the age limit in your state's last SI notice. Most states allow age relaxation for reserved categories and women.
  3. Choose your route: state SI through BPSSC, UPPRPB, RPSC or your state's board, or Delhi Police and CAPF SI through the SSC exam.
  4. Prepare for the written exam: general studies, Hindi, reasoning, and numerical ability. Our syllabus page explains how to read a syllabus.
  5. Build fitness for PET at the same time. Meet the PST height and chest rules before you apply.
  6. After selection, you join a police training school for many months before posting.

A constable can also become SI later through departmental promotion or limited departmental exams, but this takes years and depends on state rules.

Common mistakes in police forms

  • Applying for a post whose height or chest you do not meet. The PST is strict and there is no exception outside what the notice allows.
  • Claiming a reserved category of your home state in another state. Most states give reservation only to their own domicile holders.
  • Losing NCC, sports or home guard weightage, where a notice gives it, because the certificate is not in the given format.
  • Choosing the wrong post code when one notice covers constable, driver and other posts.
  • Ignoring tattoo rules. Some forces do not allow tattoos on certain body parts; read the medical rules.
