Vyapam, PEB, ESB: one board with three names

This confuses many first time applicants, so here it is in order. The board began as the Pre Medical Test Board, which ran entrance tests for medical colleges. In the early 1980s it was merged with the pre engineering board and became the Madhya Pradesh Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal, which is where the short name Vyapam comes from. In English it was called the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board, so you will also see PEB, MPPEB and peb mp on old admit cards and result sheets.

Over time its work moved away from college entrance tests towards state government recruitment. Later the state renamed it the Madhya Pradesh Karmchari Chayan Mandal, in English the Employees Selection Board, or ESB. It is the same board in Bhopal doing the same kind of exams, so a search for mp vyapam, mppeb or mp esb leads to one place.

ESB exams and how the board works

ESB usually advertises a combined test for a group (samuh) of similar posts from several departments. One computer based exam, one merit list, and posts given department wise by your rank and choices. Common ESB exam families include:

• Teacher exams: eligibility tests and selection tests for primary (varg 3), middle and higher secondary teachers. A peb result varg 3 search is about the primary teacher level.
• Police constable: written test by ESB, then physical tests run by the police.
• MP excise constable: abkari aarakshak posts in the excise department, with a written test and physical standards.
• Group exams: clerical, revenue, laboratory, nursing, technical and engineering posts bundled by qualification level.

ESB results, answer keys and the template

For a computer based test, ESB first puts up the provisional answer key, which many candidates still call the vyapam template or peb template pdf. You can check your response sheet against it and raise an objection in the window given, usually with a fee per question. After expert review the board publishes the final key and then the result.

The result appears on the ESB website under results, normally as a roll number wise list or a login based scorecard. MPPSC state service and other commission exams

MPPSC handles the senior jobs. Its flagship is the State Service Examination (rajya seva pariksha) with three stages: an objective preliminary exam that only screens, a written main exam, and an interview. The final merit uses main plus interview marks. The commission also recruits assistant professors, medical officers, forest service officers and engineers through separate notices.

For constables, ESB holds the written exam. Those who clear the cut off go to the physical efficiency test and physical measurement by the police, then medical and document checks. Height, chest and running standards differ for men and women and for some reserved groups, so take them from the current rule book. Who can apply: domicile, reservation and age

Most posts are open to any Indian citizen with the stated qualification, but reservation for SC, ST, OBC and EWS, and for women, is generally given only to bona fide residents (mool niwasi) of Madhya Pradesh with a certificate issued by the state. Candidates from other states usually apply as unreserved. A few posts want CPCT or a similar computer qualification, so check that before paying.

District offices and contract jobs

Not every job comes through ESB or MPPSC. District collectorates, health societies, district courts and municipal bodies in MP districts such as Seoni, Rewa or Gwalior often hire on contract or for small numbers of posts. These notices appear on the district's official site and the office notice board, with offline or online forms. Treat any notice that asks for money by personal transfer as a warning sign, and verify it on the district website before you send anything.
